Hospice Toronto is a community-based healthcare provider that delivers high quality care for people of all ages, supporting clients, their families and caregivers through all phases of life limiting illness. The Young Carers program supports youth who help to take care of family members who have a chronic illness, are dying, or live with a disability, substance abuse, mental health challenges and/or language barrier. Hospice Toronto is expanding the program to recruit “Youth Champions” (older youth who have previous participated in Young Carer programming) as mentors to new Young Carers. Mentors receive training focused on empathy and communication, mindful listening, trust exercises, yoga, and team building challenges.
