Trails Youth Initiatives challenges and equips vulnerable Toronto youth—youth who are living daily with high-risk factors and are suffering from anxiety, low self-esteem, aggression, and poor academic performance—to become contributing members of their communities. At Trails’ 143-acre outdoor education facility north of the city, youth participate in Leadership-in-Training (LIT) by attending a 13 Day sea-kayaking trip, where LIT youth take turns as leaders for the day, facilitate evening debriefs, and assume some responsibility for group travel, safety and teaching. They gain skills in conflict resolution, with a view to enhancing their mental health and relationships with others.
This is an outstanding city.
