The Canada Company Scholarship Fund was created in recognition of the selfless sacrifice that Canada’s brave military personnel make in the service of their country and in tribute to the children they have left behind.
Initially, in 2007, CIBC provided leadership funding in the amount of $1 million. Canada Company also secured financial support from Peter Munk, Founder and Chairman of Barrick Gold Corporation; James Balsillie, Former Co-Chief Executive Officer of Research In Motion (RIM); R B & H Inc.; Paul Desmarais, President and Co-CEO of Power Corporation of Canada; the W. Garfield Weston Foundation; Bank of Montreal; Scotiabank; Standard Life Assurance Company of Canada and from AGF Management Limited. Over the past years, generous members of the public have added to the fund in their own efforts to recognize the appreciation they hold for the men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
In 2016, with a response to the ever-evolving needs of the Canadian Armed Forces and its members, Canada Company announced an enhancement to the Scholarship Fund. A generous initial contribution of $100,00 from the Canada Company Board of Directors and then matched by TD Canada Trust, Scotiabank, RBC and BMO that the Scholarship Fund would be enhanced to include the children of serving military members who have taken their own lives, as deemed attributable to their military service.
The Canada Company Scholarship Fund provides up to $4,000 per year for up to four years to support the post-secondary education for children who qualify. More information on eligibility and how to apply can be found here.
Canada Company oversees the fund and is supported by an independent Scholarship Fund Oversight Committee to ensure that bereaved children have the opportunity to receive scholarship grants for their post-secondary education. This oversight committee also determines the eligibility criteria, disburses the funds and makes recommendations to Canada Company for future funding requirements.

Le Fonds des bourses d’études de La Compagnie Canada a été créé en reconnaissance des braves militaires canadiens qui ont fait le sacrifice ultime au nom de leur pays et en hommage aux enfants qu’ils laissent derrière.
Au départ, en 2007, la CIBC a versé au Fonds un don exemplaire de 1 million de dollars. La Compagnie Canada a également reçu un appui financier de la part de Peter Munk, fondateur et président du conseil de Barrick Gold Corporation; de James Balsillie, ancien coprésident et directeur général de Research In Motion (RIM); de R B & H Inc.; de Paul Desmarais, président et codirecteur général de Power Corporation du Canada; de la Fondation W. Garfield Weston; de la Banque de Montréal; de la Banque Scotia; de la Compagnie d’assurance Standard Life du Canada et de La Société de Gestion AGF Limitée. Au cours des dernières années, de généreux membres du public ont aussi contribué au Fonds à leur propre mesure afin de démontrer leur appréciation et leur reconnaissance pour les hommes et les femmes qui portent l’uniforme et qui ont fait l’ultime sacrifice.
En 2016, en réponse aux besoins en constante évolution des Forces armées canadiennes et de leurs membres, La Compagnie Canada a annoncé la bonification du Fonds des bourses d’études. Le conseil d’administration de La Compagnie Canada a fait la généreuse contribution initiale de 100 000 $ à laquelle s’est ensuite ajoutée une contribution équivalente de la part de TD Canada Trust, de la Banque Scotia, de la RBC et de la BMO. Cela a permis d’élargir les critères d’admissibilité du Fonds des bourses d’études pour y inclure les enfants des militaires en service qui se sont enlevé la vie et dont le geste est considéré comme imputable au service militaire.
Le Fonds des bourses d’études de La Compagnie Canada octroie jusqu’à 4 000 $ par année, pendant quatre ans tout au plus, afin de soutenir les études postsecondaires des enfants qui répondent aux critères d’admissibilité. La Compagnie Canada administre le Fonds et est appuyée par un comité indépendant de supervision pour s’assurer que les enfants endeuillés ont l’occasion de recevoir des bourses pour leurs études postsecondaires. Ce comité de supervision détermine également les critères d’admissibilité, octroie les fonds et effectue des recommandations à La Compagnie Canada relativement à tout besoin éventuel en matière de financement.
