The Foundation was established in 2012 as a way for the Halsall Family to give back to the city they have called home for many years. Our experiences led us to focus on a “venture philanthropy” approach to funding in which we target grassroots organizations and start-ups led by passionate and effective entrepreneurs.
At this time, we have increased from one to three categories of funding, and expanded our geography to any Canadian initiative with the right program. The current interest categories are:
- Opportunities for Youth: The original focus, which continues as a category, is to create opportunities for youth in challenged communities to realize their full potential as citizens through programs that promote youth leadership and training.
- System Change in Support of the Planet and Democracy: We seek to support entrepreneurs driving the system change needed to achieve environmental balance and to strengthen democracy.
- Community Infrastructure: We also contribute funds to some community building education and health care initiatives.
This Fund’s granting purpose is subject to change at the request of the Donor Advisor.
