Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre
Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre (Council Fire) serves the community in the downtown core of Toronto with a commitment to their health, safety and wellbeing. They encourage and enhance the spiritual and personal growth of First Nations people by providing counselling, material assistance and other direct services.
For years Council Fire championed the idea and creation of a permanent cultural space at City Hall. In September 2024, the 20,650 square-foot Spirit Garden opened, which will enable teaching, learning, sharing and healing experiences for the Indigenous community of Toronto, the City’s diverse residents and visitors. The project responds in part to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Call to Action 82, for government to commission and install a Residential Schools Monument in each capital city to honour residential school survivors, and all the children lost to their families and communities.
Indigenous youth, adults, seniors and families who are established in the community or in transition.
