Doreen Coley Memorial Fund

Doreen Coley

Thank you for your interest in the Doreen Coley Memorial Fund.

The Fund was established in honour of my mother, Doreen who passed away in her 90th year due to complication of Alzheimer's disease. Doreen, also affectionately known as "Aunt Dor" and "Auntie Sissy," was born on April 13, 1933, in the parish of Clarendo on the beautiful island of Jamaica to her beloved parents, Samuel Agustus Weathers and Moreen Emeline Weathers (nee Thomai). She spent the majority of her formative years in Mandeville, Manchester, where she lived as a well respected community member, devoted wife, mother, and business women.

Doreen's greatest joy was to be married to Lester L Coley, a union that brought four children into this world that she treasured. Her love for her children was the major reason for migrating to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She recognized that Canada provided multiple opportunities for her children and extended family that were not available in Jamaica.

Doreen worked at the Toronto General Hospital for 27 years, where she served as a heralded top employee. She was awarded on several occasions for her outstanding performance as a Nursing Assistant. Her cheerful demeanour and excellent work ethic shine through in every department she assisted during her tenure, however, the work she was most proud of and that brought her the most joy was while she served in the Neonatal Unit at TGH. Doreen's whole-hearted laughter, her smile that lit up the room, her love for gardening and farming, her delicious traditional Jamaican cooking, the stories she enjoyed sharing, her genuine love of people and her soul moving prayers will stay in my heart forever. She was a women of God, deeply spiritual that manifested itself in her volunteerism with the Parish church in Mandeville, the Baptist church and finally the Heritage Green Seventh-Day Adventist Church Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada

I, Audley Coley, am dedicating this foundation to my mother in recognition of her sacrifice for her children.

The goal of the Fund is to honour and celebrate the memory of Doreen. At this time, the funds raised will help support various religious organizations in Toronto that I believe aligned with her passions: supporting churches and educational endeavours.
