Midtown Ravines Group Restoration Fund

Toronto’s Vale of Avoca ravine is one of the city’s hidden natural treasures: a rare woodland valley where Yellow Creek still flows above ground through the heart of midtown Toronto. For generations, it has offered residents a place of beauty, quiet, walking, birdlife, and connection to nature — yet decades of erosion, invasive species, deteriorating trails, and underinvestment now threaten this Environmentally Significant Area.

The Midtown Ravines Group, a registered charity, has developed a bold community vision to restore the Vale as a resilient, accessible, and ecologically thriving ravine for future generations. Working collaboratively with City of Toronto divisions, conservation partners, residents, and community stakeholders, the project will support both capital restoration projects and long-term maintenance initiatives to stabilize ravine slopes and stream banks, restore biodiversity, improve sustainable trail connections, and strengthen the ravine’s resilience to climate change and urban intensification.

Funds raised through Midtown Ravines Group Restoration Fund, a donor-advised fund at Toronto Foundation, will help create a healthier, more connected urban ravine system and ensure the Vale of Avoca remains a protected ecological sanctuary and cherished public landscape for generations to come.
