Miziwe Biik

For over 30 years, Miziwe Biik has been meeting the training and employment needs of Indigenous people living in Toronto. The organization helps Indigenous people complete their high school diploma, apply for postsecondary school and search for jobs. In 2024 Miziwe Biik proudly opened their new training facility in the Canary District, in partnership with Anishnawbe Health Toronto, meaning they now offer double the physical employment training space. Miziwe Biik both pays for clients to attend employment training and offers it in-house in fields such as the skilled trades, healthcare and technology.

In fall 2024 Miziwe Biik opened its training institute in the West Donlands and hopes to serve double the number of clients between its two locations. The new space offers hands-on carpentry, tutoring classrooms, a business incubator and other multi-purpose training spaces for programming and gatherings, as well as a childcare and family centre.

Housing is the biggest issue facing our community. There isn’t enough affordable housing for people to stay in while they complete employment training, many live in shelters.
