2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations
Founded in 1995, 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations supports the Two-Spirit, Indigenous Queer, and Transgender (2SIQT) communities in Ontario with holistic services rooted in Indigenous health and wellness philosophies. They provide culturally supported education, prevention and assistance to First Nations, Métis and Inuit individuals living with or at risk for HIV and related co-infections. Recognizing the ongoing impacts of colonial violence, they are dedicated to uplifting and empowering, ensuring that all can thrive within their communities and nations.
Since 2022, 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations has run a 24/7 Indigenous crisis support service called Toronto Community Crisis Service (TCCS) dispatched through 211 and in partnership with several community groups. The service offers a community-based, client-centered and trauma-informed approach to non-emergency crisis calls and wellness checks, providing an alternative to police enforcement.
We see a strong, healthy and self-determining 2-Spirit community in Ontario where 2-Spirit peoples live with pride in their Indigenous heritages, values and roles in our communities.
