Toronto & York Region Métis Council (TYRMC)
TYRMC represents Métis people in Toronto and York Regions, promoting cultural connection, education and community-building. Their mission is to build healthy, reciprocal relationships in the spirit of reconciliation. Through volunteer-led programs, TYRMC supports community members in embracing their identity, history and traditions, while living full and healthy lives in an urban environment.
TYRMC supports 1,500 Métis community members in the Toronto and York regions with resources and cultural programming, centred around Métis identity and the revitalization of traditional knowledge.
We recognize the importance, value and traditional knowledge to heal the kinship ties, loss of language, traditional knowledge and cultural practices. These are integral to Métis people’s health, wellbeing and ways of life.
Urban Indigenous populations experience some of the greatest health and socio-economic disparities in the country.
