Vital Toronto Fund grants are changing

A new grant stream for visionary ideas and leaders tackling inequities in our city launches in October

Living in this city we get used to change – it is as they say, the only constant. And as our communities evolve, we are continuously challenged to find new ideas, insights, and ways of doing things to address the pressing issues impacting quality of life in our city – especially for our most vulnerable. At Toronto Foundation, we make it a priority to assess the effectiveness of our own contributions to city building, including our grant making to local organizations. In fact, since 2004, 424 organizations have brought the Vital Toronto Fund grants to life with over $9.5M invested in dynamic initiatives, ideas, and leaders delivering much needed programming and services to their communities.
With the great success of our past grantees we’ve collectively deepened our understanding of what equitable city building entails, and learned that the path forward calls for brave and thoughtful action that aligns with the greatest needs.
To build on this momentum we’ve remodelled our grant streams. The first of these new streams, Toronto’s Vital Signs Grants (TVS Grants), will be launched this October. TVS Grants are designed to surface and support high-impact activities and visionary leadership working to tackle our city’s inequities.
Thank you to all of the inspiring organizations that participated in the Vital Ideas & Leadership (formerly Vital People and Vital Ideas) and Vital Youth grants over the past 19 years. Your leadership and dedication continue to lift up our communities. We look forward to discussing more ideas in the fall. The call for applications for TVS Grants launches in conjunction with the release of the 2019 Toronto’s Vital Signs report on October 8, 2019.
