We’re honoured to be named Canada’s #1 Equitable Funder in Future of Good’s inaugural list, amongst many of our respected peers. We share this recognition with those who have partnered with, pushed and guided us along the way. We're encouraged by the recognition and will strive to keep doing better.
The ranking is meant to celebrate organizations working to operationalize diversity, equity and inclusion, and decolonization, and encourage foundations with more work to do. The list spotlights grantmakers who are centering and advancing equity, inclusion and anti-racism in their governance, team, investing and grantmaking.
Based on our last strategic plan, we've been focused on deepening our commitment to equity. That commitment reshaped how we work from granting and investing to research and donor education, and even how we measure impact and consider new opportunities. But arguably, the most transformative impacts have come from the relationships we built with community organizations and learned from throughout the journey. In her interview with Future of Good our CEO and President, Sharon Avery said “We look at equity as a practice, not a project. So, I think we still feel we have a ways to go.”
The evolution of this work has given us the foundation to dream about building a ‘city of neighbours’ - the basis for our next strategic plan. A place where we are more connected with our fellow Torontonians; more aware of the persistent issues and inequities among us; and more engaged--coming together alongside community organizations that have long been doing this work to make Toronto a better place for everyone.
Our new plan brings together three forms of capital—financial knowledge and social—in support of community organizations to accelerate this vision. We're excited to share our commitment and amplify the work of the charitable sector – especially now, when our city needs it the most.
