We invite policymakers to use this evidence as they consider how policies, spaces, and investments can better support connection and civic life.

As recently as 2023 Toronto was one of the loneliest cities in Canada. Our disconnection goes hand-in-hand with a long-time decline in volunteering and donating. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve got a plan to build a more connected city. And we need partners to get there. Chances are you push for decisions that can help—whether in your organization, community or in government.
Shaping Policy Together
The research is clear: Communities thrive with strong connections and networks, when people feel trust in one another and a sense of belonging. Together we can speak up about the decisions and policies that can make this a reality in Toronto. Whether it’s creating more third spaces or animating parks or subsidizing engagement leads across neighbourhoods, it’s time that this city invested in the community infrastructure that will bring us closer together.
